St. Nicholas Abbey
St. Nicholas Abbey is one of Barbados' long standing tourist attraction
sites.
This mansion was built in 1660 and is one of only three genuine Jacobean
mansions in the Western Hemisphere. The renovation and refurbishment of this
property is a fine example of Rotherley Construction Inc motto of "Quality no
Compromise".
The project included the conversion of the existing horse stable structure into
a tastefully constructed and finished office whist still maintaining the aged
look of the property, the construction of a new kitchen and a rum and sugar
bond.
Also constructed was a new look out and tourist lounge to take advantage of the
magnificent tropical views of the north of the island.
The building work also included the re-pointing and cleaning of the 100ft high
chimney coral stone bricks and cladding of bond walls with natural stone.
The floors were finished using fire bricks and general restoration service
included the replacement and servicing of all existing electrical and plumbing.
Safety precautions were employed to great effect with the removal of existing
asbestos roofing material and the subsequent replacement with first quality
cedar shingles.
